Patient Consultation

Generally, patient consultation is conducted during a thirty minute appointment.

All new patients should arrive 15 minutes prior to the appointment time to fill in personal details, medical aid information and medical history. You will then be taken to the dental surgery room where the Dentist will inspect your teeth, gums and tissues.
Digital Dental Radiographs/X-Rays will be taken if necessary to thoroughly investigate hidden decay under the tooth surface, or in-between teeth or under old fillings.

The dentist uses special tools to gently remove tartar from your teeth. They might use an ultrasonic instrument first, which vibrates to loosen tartar and sprays water to clean and cool. It may sound louder because of how sound travels in your head, like with an electric toothbrush. The instrument has curved tips and is constantly moved around your teeth

A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. When a dentist gives you a filling, he or she first removes the decayed tooth material, cleans the affected area, and then fills the cleaned out cavity with a filling material. By closing off spaces where bacteria can enter, a filling also helps prevent further decay. We use a composite resin (tooth-coloured filling material) for all our fillings. 

Tooth whitening can be a very effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface.
It cannot make a complete colour change, but it may lighten the existing shade.

A root canal is a dental procedure aimed at saving a tooth that is infected or severely decayed. During a root canal, the dentist removes the damaged or infected pulp from inside the tooth, cleans and disinfects the area, and then fills and seals it to prevent further infection. This procedure helps alleviate pain, preserve the tooth's structure, and restore normal biting and chewing function. It is an essential treatment to prevent tooth loss and maintain overall oral health.

A crown is an artificial restoration that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape of a natural tooth. A crown is sometimes known as a ‘cap’. 

• Dental bridges literally bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth.
• A bridge is made up of two or more crowns for your natural and missing teeth. The anchoring teeth are called abutments. The false teeth are called pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials.
• Dental bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants. 

 A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues.

Two types of dentures are available – complete and partial dentures.
Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.

A tooth extraction is a dental procedure where a tooth is removed from its socket in the jawbone. This procedure may be necessary for various reasons, including severe decay, infection, crowding, or trauma.
